Our annual Celebrate the Night Week offers an opportunity to explore and celebrate the work taking place to restore our night sky and to enjoy the sense of awe that has inspired poets, artists, and scientists throughout the ages! All events are free but donations are accepted to help the progress continue.

 

Highlight of the Week 2025

Thursday September 4th 6PM

Wait Until the Night - Birds Navigating by the Stars

Dovetail Cafe at Duluth Folk School 1917 W Superior St, Duluth, MN 55806

Twin Ports Cafe Scientifique presents Laura Erickson, internationally recognized birding

expert who will share amazing stories and information on how birds migrate at night by

navigating with the stars.


Saturday September 6th - 11am-3 pm

Aquatic Life and Light Pollution plus Children Activities

Great Lakes Aquarium

Learn about the importance of dark skies for animals and plants that live in our aquatic environment while exploring a variety of exhibits. Children activities from 11am - 3pm.


Wednesday Sept 10th 7pm

Free Planetarium Show at Alworth Planetarium UMD

All ages will enjoy this live, interactive, full-dome theater experience that explores our connection to the cosmos and the need to preserve the darkness of the night sky.

Telescope Viewing Star Party

Woodstock Bay, Billings Park, Superior WI, 15 White Birch Trail, Superior, WI 54880

View celestial wonders through a variety of telescopes provided by Arrowhead Astronomy Society and learn how the wildlife and environment of the St. Louis Estuary depend on the darkness of night to survive. Co-hosted with Friends of Lake Superior Reserve St. Louis River Alliance.

Stop by to pick up information about the many benefits dark nights provide to environmental and human health, science, art and energy savings. Learn easy steps we can all take to preserve and restore the night.
