Photo Contest and Art Contest - Celebrate the Night Sky Week
Photography & Kids Art Contest
Celebrate the Night Sky Week Sep 12-17, 2022
As part of our Celebrate the Night Sky Week events September 12th-17th, 2022, Starry Skies North is hosting a photography contest and children’s art contest. This year we are focused on increasing awareness of the beauty and value of night skies and the importance of darkness to humans, our history, and the biotic community through artwork!
Photographs and artwork should illustrate and celebrate our night sky!
Why Celebrate the Night Sky? Across our planet, the night sky is getting dimmer. Even along Lake Superior, the stars are harder to see every year. Did you know that light pollution affects the fish in our lakes and the trees in our forests? Darkness plays a critical role in the ecosystem. This year we are bringing awareness to the dimming skies by celebrating an often hidden resource, the night!
Kids, get out your crayons or colored pencils and submit your artwork! Use our pre-made printable template ( at the bottom of this page!) or be creative and make your own. Artwork should include the night sky and it can be a sketch, color pencils, crayons, paintings, watercolor, crafting, or other (have fun with it!). Adults shouldn’t feel left out, we would love to see your work as well!
Deadline for both entries is Thursday September 16th, 2022.
