"Fans of stargazing have some fun events to look forward to.
It was announced Tuesday that 'Celebrate the Night Sky week.' kicks off September 17th.
The festivities will kick off with the Skyglow project, which highlights the effects of light pollution on the night sky and human health.
Throughout the week there will be presentations, film screenings, and star parties across the region.
Event organizers say the Northland is an ideal location to hold a celebration like this, because our skies are exceptionally dark.. giving us views of the Milky Way and the northern lights.
"It's really to raise awareness and to celebrate getting people tuned in to the night skies that we have and raising awareness to make sure we keep that and maybe even have more access and see the northern lights in town again" said Cynthia Lapp of Starry Skies Lake Superior.
It's estimated that 80-percent of Americans are not able to see the Milky Way because of light pollution."
