  • Serving as Board Chair, Bob F helps guide the organization’s direction while coordinating special projects, supporting committee leads, and offering creative and media insight that strengthens many of Starry Skies North’s initiatives. His thoughtful perspective and collaborative leadership help the team move ideas forward and bring new concepts to life.

    Bob brings a deep background in visual storytelling and creative partnerships with universities and organizations around the world. He is the director of the documentary Northern Nights, Starry Skies and has been instrumental in developing interactive tabletop displays placed along Minnesota’s North Shore to educate visitors about the importance of protecting the night. Splitting time between Duluth and Arizona, Bob is always looking for new partnerships and opportunities to expand awareness of dark skies.

Todd Burlet Starry Skies North
  • Todd serves as President of Starry Skies North and is a driving force behind the organization’s public outreach, advocacy, and partnerships. He regularly represents the organization at events across the region, leads presentations on light pollution and night sky preservation, and works with local leaders to balance public safety with responsible lighting practices. Todd plays a key role in building awareness and community support for protecting the night.

    A lifelong amateur astronomer and photographer, Todd is also a Delegate for DarkSky International and founded the Mid-Continent chapter of DarkSky International, which spans six U.S. states and two Canadian provinces. Based in Maple Grove, he enjoys nightscape photography, canoeing, scuba diving, and traveling to experience total solar eclipses. Todd is always happy to connect with fellow stargazers and anyone curious about protecting the night sky.

  • Peter Leete brings decades of environmental leadership and policy experience to Starry Skies North. During his 30-year career with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, he served as liaison with MnDOT, helping bridge the missions of multiple state agencies while advancing the field of transportation ecology. His work has influenced transportation design practices across North America.

    Through this work, Peter became increasingly aware of the impacts of artificial light at night on natural ecosystems. Now serving as Vice President of Starry Skies North, he continues advocating for thoughtful solutions that balance infrastructure needs with environmental protection. Peter lives in St. Paul and remains active with several organizations, including the International Conference on Ecology & Transportation and the Prairie Enthusiasts. He enjoys photography, woodworking, outdoor adventures, and time at the family cabin with his children and grandchildren.

Bob Groethe Starry Skies North
  • As Treasurer, Bob G ensures Starry Skies North maintains strong financial stewardship and meets the requirements of local, state, and partner organizations. He helps oversee budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance, while also contributing ideas and insight that support the organization’s broader programs and initiatives.

    Originally from South Dakota, Bob developed a lifelong appreciation for dark skies and astronomy. He enjoys reading science and astronomy journals and is often the first to share news about upcoming celestial events with the team. When he’s not reviewing financials, Bob can often be found outdoors under the night sky with binoculars in hand, on the golf course, or traveling with his wife to see eclipses and meteor showers wherever the road may lead.
